Klatu the Household Android – Quasar Industries Inc. (Anthony Reichelt – President)
Klatu it was claimed at the time, was based on the utterance of the speech synthesizer chip when the word "u-talk" was spoken in reverse. Although appearing metallic, the spherical head was made from translucent plastic, and lit up when Klatu talked.
Klatu the Household Android was announced in the mid-1970s by Quasar Corporation. It could supposedly vacuum, dust, cook meals, walk the dog, do the laundry etc.. It responded to voice commands, although I don't know if it ever spoke. Some time later, the Quasar robot quietly disappeared from the media spotlight, never to be seen again. I found that one of the division managers at Quasar had decided that they were going to sell a robot, and it didn't matter that the technology they needed did not existed at that time. The robots that appeared in the media, in the meantime, were apparently radio-controlled by humans who just happened to be hanging around when the robot made an appearance.
