Apogee and Perigee are also known as MildBoy and MildGirl. Mildboy and Mildgirl originally, Apogee and Perigee were characters in a Suntory Whiskey commercial in 1984. The popularity of the commercials spawned the toys Mildboy and Mildgirl, which were sold in Japan. Bandai brought the series to the US in 1985 as the Love Bo-Gi-Bots. Mild Girl became GI Bot and Mild Boy became BO Bot. Bandai's parent company Popy is famous for their highly collectible mid 1970s line of Chogokin die-cast metal robot figures. By the early 1980s metal gave way to plastic in the business of toy making, so Popy marketed new lines of collectible Chogokin robot figures under the Bandai brand.
